DCAC Basics

When a student is assigned to us at DCAC, parents often have questions about our school and what their child will be doing during his or her stay. Here is a brief overview:


DCAC has a four period day. High school students follow their regular class schedule. Middle school students take English, math, science, and social studies. Middle school students who have computer courses have a split period and a fully equipped lab.

All students bring books from their home schools. It is your responsibilty to have the correct books.

DCAC teachers are licensed and qualified to teach their assigned subjects.

Social Skills

DCAC recognizes that learning to interact with others is a vital part of the school experience. We concentrate on three social skills areas:

Values - ten values form the core of DCAC's social skills curriculum:       

 Be considerate          Be honest    Be Patient       Be respectful     Be responsible     Be Safe

Stay in your area       Use time wisely     Respect other people's property     Follow directions

Students memorize these values and demonstrate them in their daily behavior at DCAC.

Attitude - we use Charles Swindoll's attitude speech to teach the importance of a good attitude and how to recognize the difference between what we can control and what we cannot.

Authority - we teach the proper response to authority and how to communicate respectfully with authority figures.

Working the Program

DCAC is a minimum thirty day program. Students work through four behavior stages to earn their way out of DCAC. By earning ninety or more points each day on their feedback sheets (see the handbook for more information), students progress through the program as they demonstrate the ability to implement the values they are taught each day. Additionally, students are required to complete an assignment to move from one level to the next.
